Title: The Education of Margot SanchezAuthor: Lilliam Rivera
Book: Hardcover, 304 pages
Expected Publication: February 21st 2017
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Reasons:
Let’s just start by getting this out of the way since when it comes to my books I can be a bit vain with no shame. The Education of Margot Sanchez by Lilliam Rivera has an INSANELY STUNNING cover! from the yellow contrast against the black & white to our main protagonist’s BEAUTIFUL hair, I am experiencing some serious cover lust here Gals & Ghouls! Then we have the synopsis intro describe this story as “Pretty in Pink comes to the South Bronx” now this book is just after my heart, no doubt about it! you mention Pretty in Pink anywhere & I’m already pulling out my old Chucks haha! A coming-of-age story about a girl basically split between two very different worlds, that of her family & neighborhood vs. the life of a prep school student. I myself came from a Brooklyn neighborhood very similar to Margot’s Bronx neighborhood and chose to attend school in Manhattan in a neighborhood that was the complete opposite of my own. These types of stories are so rare & nuanced that I can’t help but gravitate towards them since I can see myself relating to the Margot’s of the world. I am looking forward to reading all about Margot’s dysfunctional family. I have a feeling that I am going to love these characters. I am a Latina woman (Puerto-Rican & Salvadorian) & I know how a Puerto-Rican family household marches…to the beat of their own drum!
Goodreads Synopsis:
Pretty in Pink comes to the South Bronx in this bold and romantic coming-of-age novel about dysfunctional families, good and bad choices, and finding the courage to question everything you ever thought you wanted—from debut author Lilliam Rivera.
THINGS/PEOPLE MARGOT HATES:
Mami, for destroying my social life
Papi, for allowing Junior to become a Neanderthal
Junior, for becoming a Neanderthal
This supermarket
Everyone else
After “borrowing” her father’s credit card to finance a more stylish wardrobe, Margot
Sanchez suddenly finds herself grounded. And by grounded, she means working as an indentured servant in her family’s struggling grocery store to pay off her debts.
With each order of deli meat she slices, Margot can feel her carefully cultivated prep school reputation slipping through her fingers, and she’s willing to do anything to get out of this punishment. Lie, cheat, and maybe even steal…
Margot’s invitation to the ultimate beach party is within reach and she has no intention of letting her family’s drama or Moises—the admittedly good looking but outspoken boy from the neighborhood—keep her from her goal.
I am ready for this beautiful book to be in my hands & can’t wait to read & fall in love with Margot’s world. What’s on your Waiting On Wednesday? C’mon my bookish peeps, I have my Goodreads TBR open & ready for some love 😉💕

You introduced me to this book months ago and I am so excited to read it! Since the author is Puerto Rican herself, I have a feeling she’s going to nail our culture in the head lol.

I am definitely adding this to my to-read list as well Lilly! Also I’m the same because I always add books to my to-read list based on how gorgeous the cover is, and this book has a stunning cover. Luckily the blurb sounds amazing too so together it’s more than enough to convince me I need to read this when it comes out.
Great pick for this week! 😀

There is a lot of diversity that seems to be popping up in YA now, and I really love it. I think this is going to be another great read as well! 😀

omg, yasss. I want this book soo bad.
So, I have a little story. The author and I follow each other on Twitter, and a few months ago she told me that she would add me to a list of people who would get a print ARC. But her publicist is someone who resents me, I think…because early in 2016 I requested a book for review from her, and she said yes. Then some months later she apparently sent it to me, but I was never notified and I never received the book. So a week before release date she asked me if I was planning to review the book, and I was like, but I never got it! So I felt terrible and then I told her I would read an ecopy from Eidelweiss so I can review it. But that ecopy had hooorrrible formatting that made the book unreadable. It was so bad that I couldn’t read it, so I DNF’d it and didn’t review it. So I feel like the publicist hates me and is not going to send me the book. So I want to cry a little.
Or maybe I’m just paranoid.
Either way, I’m still super stoked for this book.

Oh no! we follow each other as well on twitter but I’m legit too much of an introvert to say anything directly to her 🙈😂🙈😂 hmmm…that does suck cuz it’s not uncommon for this to happen. I’ve seen a few other bloggers have similar experiences. I have terrible formatting issues with eGalleys on Kindle, have you tried Bluefire? It’s the only app that actually works for me. Since you already had a convo with Lilliam, I would try again. It could very well be the publisher but it also may not, persistence is key 😉 & I’m right there with you, equal excited for this book 😆

Lilly, my fellow cover whore <3. You're totally right about this one! And I want that kind of hair! Also, I loved Pretty in Pink, even if I was way too young to know what the hell it was about when it came out.
