Friday Reads 8/25/2017

Happy Friday Readers! Hope you’ve all had a wonderful week & are getting ready to have an AMAZING weekend…if not, & you’re going more low key such as I’m doing then I hope it’s with a good book 😉

This week I found myself dealing with a ton of fatigue & feeling ill which meant that I was hitting the pillow early every single night. This however, did not slow down my reading by too much since I was reading whenever I could handle flipping pages on my kindle. Thankfully, I’m feeling much better now & hope it stays that way *fingers crossed*

Earlier this week I finished Julia Ember’s The Tiger’s Watch (Ashes of Gold #1). My rating was 4 stars & overall I’m very happy to see this book out into the world. Featuring a gender fluid MC, a awesome Tiger who is fierce & loyal, and a beautiful friendship, I’m going to need more! Check out my review for The Tiger’s Watch here.

I then started Beasts Made of Night by Tochi Onyebuchi  my 5th arc for #arcAugust & today I reached the 60% mark. This book is not like anything you’ve seen before in any YA Fantasy. It does not hold your hand while you get to know the world, it hits the ground running & trusts you the reader to keep up. I can’t wait to see how it all ends.

I’m hoping to finish Beasts Made Of Night between today & tomorrow. typically, this would be reaching for me lol but hear me out. Hubby is going to Upstate NY to participate in a Spartan race which means all of Saturday is mostly free. Yes, I have my kids but nap times for my 2 tiny humans means reading time for me. Also, we have this thing at home (fairly new) where everyone gets their “Me Time” including the kids & lemme tell ya! it works wonders LOL!

Also, on the agenda…I need a good audiobook recommendation, I have a few but I’m not really sure what I’m in the mood for. I’m about to get my credit from Audible & after LOVING The Serpent King so much, I’m wondering whether I should get his other book Goodbye Days OR go in a completely different direction with a thriller.

Saving the best for last…I am FINALLY going to start They Both Die at the End by my MOST FAVE AUTHOR IN ALL OF YA CONTEMP! *drum rolllllll* Adam Silvera *Smiles* I’ve been trying to get in the mood for a good tear jerker but it’s just not happening & I really just want to read this already haha! So I’m fully stocked with my box of tissues and as ready as I’ll ever be for my heart to be ripped out & stomped on in true Silvera fashion 😉

Happy FriYay Readers! hope you’re all having a wonderful end of the week! what are YOU reading? watching? planning this Weekend? any good audiobook recs?

  1. I’m so intrigued by they both die at the end, I love both the cover and the plot! I’m reading The Sittaford Mystery by Agatha Christie, I’m waiting Eleanor & Park in the mail and I’m so excited for it!

    1. Me too! I’m curious about the sci-fi aspect of it and the cover is lovely 😍I recently purchased my very first Agatha Christie book And Then There Were None, the one everyone has heard mentioned 😂 but I’m still pretty hyped up to get to it. I have Eleanor & Park and will be reading it possibly in December, blogging buddies have told me I’d enjoy more than Fangirl 🤷🏻‍♀️we’ll see 😉 happy reading & future book mail day! 💜📚💜

  2. I have an ARC of Beasts Made of Night and I can’t wait to get started on it, especially after hearing what you’ve just said about it in your post. It sounds like an incredible book so I hope you enjoy the rest you have left to read. Also oh They Both Die at the End is one of my most anticipated releases too, I am so excited for its release! 😀

    1. I’m writing to you while experiencing a book hangover *sobs* I finished Beasts Made of Night a few hours ago….I’ve only gotten as far as marking They Both Die at the End as “Currently Reading” on Goodreads lol. Not a page has been read because I need the sequel to Beasts & I can’t find mention of one anywhere which is impossible to believe given the ending. The book isn’t out till 10/31 but Penguins First to Read set a restriction on the PDF to expire from all devices on 9/1. This means my review will be saved in drafts lol, I hope I come across an author interview *fingers crossed* I hope you enjoy the read but you’ve been warned…hangover awaits you Beth haha!

      1. Oh man, I’m now both even more excited and even more worried about reading it myself. See from what you’ve said it sounds incredible, but at the same time I’m already terrified of the ending. I really hope there’s a sequel and I don’t even know how it ends yet! 😀
Well I’m prepared for a book hangover, hopefully knowing that will help. I may have to load up on fluffy contemporaries to get through after I’ve finished Beasts! 🙂

  3. Oh I’m so sorry you’ve been feeling a bit tired and ill this week, I hope you’re feeling better now ❤ I cant wait to hear your thoughts about Silvera's book, it sounds so heartbreaking. I only read More Happy Than Not and loved it…but I think I need to be ready before getting into another one of his books. They all seem pretty…intense, ahah 🙂

    1. Thank you for your kind words Marie ❤ & I completly understand, I did have to wait some time to start this book (got it back in June) because I love his writing but the heartbreak is rough. I do hope you enjoy the story when you get around to it 🙂

  4. Oh man. SO MANY GOOD AUDIOBOOKS! I really enjoyed listening to Joe Abercrombie’s The Shattered Sea trilogy narrated by John Keating. I also thought that Me and Earl and the Dying Girl narrated by Thomas Mann and RJ Cyler is really interesting, as they played Greg and Earl in the film. It’s obvious they know these characters really well. Finally, for something completely different, I also ADORED listening to Zach Appelman read All the Light We Cannot See, the Pulitzer Price winning WWII historical fiction novel. It’s beautiful. Listening to it is a dream.

Whether you are in the mood for a tear-jerker or not, I hope that you fall in love with They Both Die in the End. I definitely want to read this!

  5. Well I already read your August wrap up, so I know you slayed ARC August. I am really kicking myself for not participating, but with everything I had going on, I don’t think I would have been able to make it through if I had not been mood reading. I think October and November are definitely going to be ARC reading months for me…

Don’t defriend me, but I’ve yet to read a Adam Silvera book. I know he is one of your favs and well loved in the bookish community… Do you have a favorite? If I remember correctly, you really liked More Happy Than Not? Where would be a good starting point for a AS book?

    1. Hey Amanda!!! I’m seriously so happy to see you back in the blogosphere, I’ve missed you! 💕#arcAugust was just what I needed to get me reading those arcs but I’m still on a arc mission through November so I’ll be right there with you 😉

I’d never de-friend you! but you really do need to get on Silveras books 😂I’d say They Both Die at the End is my fave of all 3 now & it’s released tomorrow. I will hopefully have my gush non-spoilery review up by tomorrow. Then I’d say More Happy Than Not, I’m so curious to hear what you think of his books *eeeeK* haha! again I am SOOOO HAPPY to see you back! 😆😆😆
