I actually met Sarah Porter earlier in the month at New York Comic Con/Bookcon & received a signed finished hard cover copy of Vassa In The Night. Sarah seemed very lovely & wonderfully eccentric in full costume for the book event. Since I now have 2 finished copies of Vassa In The Night, I will be doing a giveaway soon since my 6 month blogoversary is coming up ๐
Book Of The Month
Book Of the Month is a monthly subscription service offering 5 selections each month ranging in genre. BOTM does a pretty awesome job at scouting reads that are great conversation starters & are truly thought provoking. The simplicity of the box also places all of the focus on the books themselves which is refreshing in a world full of subscription boxes with an array of themes. I subscribed to BOTM in hopes that it would get done what I haven’t been able to do in a while which is get back to reading Fiction. I LOVE Fantasy & Sci-Fi but I can’t say that I don’t miss the genre that got me into reading in the first place. In order to bring some FIC back into my life I subbed to BOTM. It also didn’t hurt that I received a $5 coupon for my first month ๐ I am really looking forward to reading The Mothers by Brit Bennett (hopefully in November) & trying out BOTM.
***Book came with box of mints, bookmark, and a letter from the BOTM judge who selected this book for the month of October.

I ALSO subbed to BOTM in October and chose The Mothers!!! Great minds think a like. ๐ At $5, how could I say no? But I liked it so much that I’m going to keep my subscription. I love the freedom of it. If I don’t like next month’s book, I can just postpone it. That’s amazing!

The skip a month option is AWESOME! you don’t feel forced to pick a book if you’re not feeling any of them, which I doubt that’ll happen but good to have anyways.

I am dying to get my hands on Vassa in the Night! That bracelet is so cute! I ordered the OwlCrate for next month, which is am SO excited for. I have a good feeling about what the book is going to be and it’s Alice in Wonderland themed items, so I am stoked!

I was too until I ended up with 2 copies so I’ll def be including it in my 6 month blogoversary giveaway next month. I LOVED the bracelet until the spinning wheel fell off leaving me one sad SIM smh LOL. I also think I know which book it will be & I hope I’m right because I currently have the ARC of the book I’m hoping is coming in the November box. Big Alice fan here so I’m also hyped up about this upcoming one ๐

I agree this is why I decided to give it a shot & see how I fare with it. I’m already looking at my November schedule to see where I can fit it in because I REALLY do want to read this one sooner rather than later. I love that you an skip a month of none of the 5 books they’ve selected are really your thing. Also that they have recurrent judges that u get to know for their taste in book & celebrity judges as well who pick books for the boxes. The ability to add a book to your order for just $999 (hardcover) is a steal… they should pay me for promoting this box LMAO!

I was subscribed to Owl Crate a while back but cancelled that subscription when I started getting Fairy Loot boxes. Unfortunately I can’t afford two boxes each month which is actually lucky because the September Fairy Loot book was Vassa in the Night as well, but at the same time I really really want the Wonderland box from Owl Crate! I’m reading Vassa at the moment and actually really enjoying it so I hope you do as well! Also the goodies in that box are all really amazing, I really love the bracelet and the Oz inspired passport! ๐
Book of the Month sounds really cool as well, I saw the photo on your Instagram and am really intrigued by that cover. I hope you enjoy that book as well, will you be posting a review when you’ve finished it?

This is the first box that I enjoyed the bookish swag more than receiving the book since I already own a signed hardcover. I’ve heard so many mixed reviews for Vassa that it worries me LOL. I’m really looking forward to the Wonderland box, I’m a big fan of that world ๐๐๐ As for BOTM, I had heard of The Mothers before subscribing & thought I was destined to have it haha! I will def be reading &!reviewing it soon ๐

There have been a few boxes I’ve thought the same, enjoyed the bookish swag more than the book, and not because the book wasn’t amazing just because the little gifts were more amazing! ๐
I finished Vassa earlier today and actually really loved it, I hope you do too. It’ll be disappointing having two copies of a book you don’t enjoy.
I can’t wait to see what you get for the Wonderland box, will you be subscribing to BOTM again?

Nice pics, Lilly! I am so bummed that I ended up with two copies of Vassa in the Night. I did not like this book at all. I posted an Instagram giveaway for the entire OwlCrate box yesterday and hardly anyone even followed the directions. ๐๐ I’m thinking maybe I need to repost the pic or just run the giveaway on my blog and Twitter.

I’m so sorry to hear that Jill, it’s honestly making me raise double the eyebrows at this book. I’m going to run a giveaway on the blog cuz at least the likelihood of it going to someone I communicate with is higher. When Instagram changed their algorithm, it was a major turn off ๐

What algorithm did they change on Instagram? I didn’t start using it until more recently. It’s such a pain I think I’m just going to make it a blog giveaway. The people who commented also follow my blog so works for me.

A few months ago they changed the algorithm to heir timeline. If you look closely you’ll see that it’s out of chronological order so you’re not seeing photos as people you follow are posting them. Instead, for the most part you will see posts with higher likes in hundreds with a sprinkle of some lower liked photos. It’s been such a turn off. I used to be so active but now I barely go on at all. I have to be really excited about a book photo for me to open that app lol. When it happened, everyone was up in arms. It only seems to benefit those with extreme high counts. I went from steadily increasing my followers to being stuck at the same # ever since the change ๐

That makes sense why I only see super high liked posts. That’s a bunch of crap. What a turn off for sure. I had no idea that was how it worked. It should be whatever people post that day and not what’s well liked.

Girl, you can always use more book subscription boxes in your life :’). I’ve been meaning to go for some more ‘grown-up’ books as well but failing miserably at it so far because of all the YA/Fantasy/SciFi books I’ve bought and requested for the past 6 months. Maybe I should add another book sub to it to inspire me to read faster and get to some literary fiction as well *strokes chin*, sounds like a valid argument right? xD

I think that this is a VERY solid argument! especially since it’s the same one I used to justify subbing to BOTM LMAO! I was never going to pick up literary fiction again at the rate that I’m going with Fantasy & everything else, it just wasn’t going to happen LOL. I LOve the BOTM selections though & the skip a mth option ๐ *peer pressure* LOL

I have tried out Owl Crate, but I didn’t particularly care for my first box. Of course I’ve seen other months where I would have loved the box, but who knows! I also tried out MyLitBox, which features books written by people of color, which I did really like. I am thinking about asking for a subscription for Christmas ๐

I liked this month’s OwlCrate. Although, I’ve noticed a few people didn’t like Vassa in the Night at all so I’m a bit hesitant about the book. I love the paperclip bookmark you got in yours. It’s such a pretty color! I think it’s neat how each box had a different style for that. How excited are you for next month’s box? I can’t wait! I know I said I would cancel after this month but now I can’t seem to stop wanting another box. ๐๐
