WWW Wednesdays

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On a World of Words and to participate all you have to do is answer the three W’s listed below. Once you’ve posted your WWW, drop a link to your post in Sam’s comments <3’s!

The questions are:
1. What are you currently reading?
2. What did you recently finish reading?
3. What do you think you’ll read next?

*All covers will take you to the Goodreads link

I am currently at the 50% mark in Our Dark Duet (Monsters of Verity #2) which is INSANE seeing as I only started this book yesterday *gasps & clutches pearls* smh. I’ve inhaled the first half of this book & that’s thanks to the dark & gritty world Schwab has created in Verity. This is the type of book that once you start, real life falls away and you find yourself immersed in what the author has constructed. Verity is worse now than what we last saw in This Savage Song (Monsters of Verity #1) & our characters mirror that decline. I have no idea how this will end but I am so invested in this story that I’m pretty sure I’ll know by the end of today *fingers crossed*

I recently read & reviewed Song of the Current (Song of the Current #1) a true high Seas adventure. If you’re a lover of Pirates of the Caribbean  but want a water adventure with a female protagonist who is a POC then look no further. This book has it all & then some. I really enjoyed this story but more than anything, the final chapters really solidified my interest in continuing with this duology. Highly recommend for excellent world building & diverse characters.

I also just recently finished Bad Romance by Heather Demetrios & will be posting my review by Friday. This is a true conversation starter, one that we need to be having with young adults. I mentioned on Goodreads in what I’ve begun calling my “first impressions” (subject to change if written half asleep at 2am) the following:

Stay tuned for my review…

My next reads will be The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzie Lee & Every Last Lie by Mary Kubica both galleys I’m really looking forward to readingI was planning on providing Synopsis for these both when I noticed the following:

  • The Gentelman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue has to have THE longest Goodreads synopsis & I don’t know about you but I’m hesitant to even read those. So I’ve provided the GR links above but for those who don’t want to read the GR synopsis, I’ve got a snippet for you:

An unforgettable tale of two friends on their Grand Tour of 18th-century Europe who stumble upon a magical artifact that leads them from Paris to Venice in a dangerous manhunt, fighting pirates, highwaymen, and their feelings for each other along the way.

*also, it’s LGBTQIA+ and I needn’t know more 😉

  • Every Last Lie is a thriller I requested after hearing so many good things about Mary Kubica’s books both around the blogosphere & on booktube. When it comes to thrillers, I definitely never read the entire synopsis because 80% of the time something is spoiled. Instead I’ll leave you with this snippet:

“The bad man, Daddy. The bad man is after us.”

Clara Solberg’s world shatters when her husband and their four-year-old daughter are in a car crash, killing Nick while Maisie is remarkably unharmed. The crash is ruled an accident…until the coming days, when Maisie starts having night terrors that make Clara question what really happened on that fateful afternoon.

What are you wonderful bookworms currently reading? planning to read next? any good ones? & if you’re reading any of the ones I mentioned, let me know down in the comments what your 1st impressions were <3’s!

    1. OMG TWIN! 1AM?!?! LOL you know cuz we spoke that I could barely keep my eyes open last night…more like this whole week smh. I haven’t had a chance to read here at work but I do plan on reading some more on my commute home, make no promises after 8pm cuz exhaustion is wearing me down lol. I am OBSESSED with this world, If I come across any swag from this world, it will be the only swag I get truly excited about (reserved only for Potter) lol. Bad Romance is tough & It’s most def a conversation starter but I’m weary of recommending it seeing as it was extremely mentally draining. & finally lol. thanks twin, I didn’t aim to mix up my reads this mth but it just organically happened so rollin’ with it. Happy reading twin <3!

    1. I can’t recommend This Savage Song enough to those who enjoy a dark Fantasy with EPIC world building. Bad Romance was tough but I think it really captured what emotional/verbal abuse at the hands of those we love can look & feel like. I’ll be on the lookout for your thoughts when you get to them 😉

    1. OMYGOSH! how are you even blogging right now?!?! lol I think I’m going to need a week of recovery after I read the last sentence. I’m at the 50% mark and I’ve just reached that point of realization…you know….when you realize the next book hasn’t been written yet -_- smh lol. I’m glad you enjoyed the read 😉

    1. Me too Larkin! I’m totally envisioning Damien Salvatore from Vampire Diaries for our main protog just cuz he breaks all the rules & has way too many vices lol. I’m so excited to start this one on Friday. I hope you enjoy when you get around to it 😉

  5. Great picks for this week Lilly. I’m so glad you enjoyed Song of the Current, after I finished my current read I need to get started on that book. It’s one of my most anticipated releases for this year so I’m not sure why I didn’t start it the second I had it in my hands! Also I really really really hope you enjoy Our Dark Duet, I finished it yesterday and there just aren’t enough words for me to describe how much I really did love it! Writing a review for that one is going to be challenging to say the least! 😀

    1. Thanks Beth! I’ll keep an eye out for your thoughts on Song of the Current, i think you’ll like that one. That happens to me all the time, for example I pre-ordered ACOWAR & couldn’t wait to get my hands on my copy only to have it sit on my home desk untouched smh *for shame* lol. I’m about to head home from the office which really should read as “Lilly leaves office & enters Verity armed with flashlights & copper” lol. Happy to know that you loved it & seeing as I’ll be done soon, I can’t wait to read your review & believe me I know! the ones we love are the hardest to review *sobs* 🙂

      1. That’s all right, and in that case I’ll be sure to let you know when I’m planning on posting my review. 🙂 I’m pretty sure I’ll love it as well.
There are always books like that I think, not sure why, I guess maybe the anticipation is too much we’re not ready to read them.
Ha, you’d need a lot of flashlights and copper if you were going into Verity. 😀

      2. Oh awesome! And I agree sometimes I get swept away by the hype train as they call it in the book community lol. I still plan on reading it but I’m still working my way through my ridiculous arc pile 😩🤦🏻‍♀️lol.

  6. I really need to read Song of the Current (SOMEDAY) because I love pirates! And I think it’s so rare to find a good pirate book, you know? Also, we might be reading A Gentleman’s Guide around the same time! Curious to see what we both think 😉

    1. Yea def if you love pirates, this is the PERFECT YA story to go with. We most certainly do not have enough, especially not with females at the helm so I hope to see more *fingers crossed* OMYGOSH are we now?!?! OK, i’ll be checking in on you when I start lol.

      1. Okay!!! I was going to request this one but I’m not sure what happened. Either I forgot…or I don’t have a contact at the publisher…oh well. I’m sure my library will have it. And yeah! I’ll be starting it in the next few days 😁

  7. I can’t wait to get my own copy of Our Dark Duet! Actively avoiding any mention until then to avoid spoilers haha. Both Bad Romance and Every Last Lie are on my wishlist as well… I hope you will enjoy your books this week and happy reading! Here’s my WWW.

    1. I have 30% left to Our Dark Duet, this week has been so hectic but I’m finishing it now & OMYGOOOOOSH! AVOID spoilers at all costs but get to it as soon as you lol. If you p/u bad Romance, I suggest a mood lifting book to follow because it is a tough one to get through because of how realistic the abuse & dialogue is. Happy Reading! 🙂

  8. I have seen some interesting and somewhat conflicting reviews for The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue. So it will be nice to see your thoughts on that one. Literally one review sparked my interest and then the next made me stop and hesitate to add it haha. But reading is so personal, you just never know. But you will be able to give me a better idea 😉 You have a knack for that.

I hope I can pick up The Savage Song and Song of the Current soon! Wait, am I seeing a theme haha 😉

    1. innnneresting *rubs chin* lol…I’m actually really curious now, you already know I will def let you know on what side of the spectrum i fall with it 😉 & I agree with your statement “reading is so personal” see it confirmed all the time. The Savage Song is so deliciously dark, Gretchen & I read it while listening to the instrumentals album called “Dark Violin” which hands down enhanced the reading experience 😉

  9. Confession time: I haven’t read This Savage Song ((hides in shame)) I don’t know whats wrong with me!!! The Shades of Magic trilogy is one of my favorite series EVER! I LOVE Schwab! Have you read Vicious? I just don’t know where to start on her other books…. HELP!

I haven’t seen Song of the Current, but thank you for putting it on my radar! I’ll head over and read your review after this 🙂

Enjoy Every Last Lie! I haven’t read it YET, but I will be picking up a copy when I meet Mary Kubica on Thursday for her book tour!!!!

    1. Ohhhhh Amanda! *for shame* LOL! well when you do get to This Savage Song, just keep in mind that in typical Schwab fashion, the first books is always the slowest lol. That being said, it was deliciously dark with villains only she can conjure & deeply flawed characters. I haven’t read Vicious yet, i’m waiting til we are closer to the release of the sequel simply because I have the memory of a 90 yr old *hides face* baha!

Song of teh Current will appeal to those lovers of high seas adventure but the diversity is def appreciated the most. OMG that’s awesome Amanda, you def get to meet some awesome authors around your way. I’ve heard great things about Every Last Lie so I’m looking forward to it. Happy reading ❤
