Goodreads:

Beware the goblin men and the wares they sell.

All her life, nineteen-year-old Liesl has heard tales of the beautiful, mysterious Goblin King. He is the Lord of Mischief, the Ruler Underground, and the muse around which her music is composed. Yet, as Liesl helps shoulder the burden of running her family’s inn, her dreams of composition and childish fancies about the Goblin King must be set aside in favor of more practical concerns.

But when her sister Käthe is taken by the goblins, Liesl journeys to their realm to rescue her sister and return her to the world above. The Goblin King agrees to let Käthe go—for a price. The life of a maiden must be given to the land, in accordance with the old laws. A life for a life, he says. Without sacrifice, nothing good can grow. Without death, there can be no rebirth. In exchange for her sister’s freedom, Liesl offers her hand in marriage to the Goblin King. He accepts.

Down in the Underground, Liesl discovers that the Goblin King still inspires her—musically, physically, emotionally. Yet even as her talent blossoms, Liesl’s life is slowly fading away, the price she paid for becoming the Goblin King’s bride. As the two of them grow closer, they must learn just what it is they are each willing to sacrifice: her life, her music, or the end of the world.

Wintersong had me at Goblins & the Underground. I am very much intrigued by this world & the female protagonist. On Goodreads, the community is calling this a “Labryinth re-telling” I never watched the David Bowie movie but will now in anticipation of this new book. I think our Goblin King will be just as interesting being the Lord of Mischief & all i’m sure trouble he shall stir 😉

Is it just me, or is anyone else also getting Beauty & The Beast vibes?

    1. Awesome! I’m actually on your blog at the moment reading your Wordless Wednesday. I’m definitely dropping a comment, please check your spam folder for me. An approval will help me get out of the spam issue I’m having since Sunday 😉💕

  1. This sounds so interesting! I’ve never read a book with Goblins in it before, but at the same it sounds like something right up my street because I love fantasy so much. Definitely getting Beauty & The Beast vibes from that synopsis. *runs to add to TBR*
    Great pick! 😊

    1. Haha! It’s on NetGalley but I received the message that a “Publisher may grant your wish, keep an eye out on your dashboard” 😩 long wait ahead til Feb lol. I’ve never read a Fantasy about Goblins! Ahhhh! 😱😬😬😬

      1. Lol!!! I hope we get approved sooner rather than later 😂😂😂 I’m excited for this one also. I actually came across it on Owlcrate’s Instagram, Korrina is currently reading a physical arc 😍😍😍

      2. Not sure, I think some publishers are just a bit more selective. I have a long ways to go before getting to physical arcs & that’s ok, I’m lucky to get approved for e-galleys. Still though, Lé sigh…😂😂😂

      3. I think so too. I’ve never been able to get approved for even e-galleys from St. Martins Press or Atria. I feel like both of them are majorly selective with who they approve. But I keep trying because one day it’ll happen 😂!

I have a long way to go too. I’ve won two in giveaways, but when I requested one from a small publishing company I got a no. I just need to give it more time and review more. I know I don’t review enough lol.

I feel the same way though! Definitely lucky enough to have been approved for some e-galleys! 😊

  2. Oh this book is really high on my to-read list. I cannot wait for its release. It has everything I love in a book and like you as soon as I read Goblins and the Underground this book has me. I’m a massive fan of fairy tale retellings as well so it doesn’t take much.
I know what you mean about the Beauty and the Beast vibe too, but is it actually supposed to be a retelling of the film Labyrinth or is it just what people are calling it. I’ve never seen the film myself either but if the book is good I may get around to watch it!
Great pick for this week! 😀

    1. That’s a good question, I plan on looking for the film this weekend to see if I can make the connection myself. Goodreads has a ton of comments for this book making that correlation. The only Labyrinth I’ve watched is Guillermo Del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth which I absolutely LOVVVEDD!!! So if it even has a hint of that, my interest would only increase lol. Either way GOBLINS!!! Haha! 😂😂😂

      1. You’ll have to let me know what you think then, if it is or isn’t connected. Either way I doubt I’ll watch the film until after the book has been released and I’ve read that.
I need to watch Pan’s Labyrinth, I’ve heard great things about that film as well! 😀

    1. Yes! that’s exactly what I got, even the cover with the single rose gives me Beauty & the Beast vibes. Then again, I know nothing of this David Bowie everyone seems to keep referencing lol. Well we’ll find out come February, thanks for stopping by Jill 🙂
