It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week.  It’s a great post to organise yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment, and er… add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye’s Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date.

This past week I participated in a group buddy read for a book that I loved to pieces! I also started one of my MOST anticipated reads for 2018 & have been absorbed within its pages (more on that down below) which probably means there will be a GUSH review coming your way. I don’t know about you Bookworms but 2018 has been SOOOOO good to me with the books I’ve been picking up. Maybe it’s because I’m being a lot more tougher on myself with the books on my TBR & those I request, but it’s been a great January & February soooo let’s cross our fingers & hope for an even better March 😉

Heart Of Iron by Ashley Poston

Last week I embarked on a fun & fast paced Sci-Fi journey that was Heart Of Iron. I rated this book 3.5 stars which is still a really good rating from me…I feel like 3 star ratings get such bad rep but in my book, anything above 3 stars is considered enjoyable. If this gets turned into a series I will definitely continue on with this story. If you enjoyed The Lunar Chronicles, chances are you’ll enjoy this new adventure. I LOVED the characters & history introduced, I just wanted them to be more fleshed out because I found them to be so interesting. Heart of Iron will hit shelves tomorrow 2/27, my review may be viewed here.

To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo

I’m going to trrrrrry & control myself in this post when it comes to this book. I LOOOOOVED this book *inserts Toy Story reference* to INFINITY & BEYOND!!!! I had the pleasure of buddy reading TKAK with Melanie at Meltotheany, Destiny at Howling Libraries, Jules, and Wren at Fables & Wren who are all phenomenal Book lovers & Bloggers! I will have a spoiler free GUSH review up by Thursday 3/1.

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

I had a feeling I would enjoy this book but nothing could’ve prepared me for the love I already have in my ❤ for these characters. I’m only 135 pages in & have already shed a few discreet tears on the subway. I’m walking around with page flags Bookworms! yeah this tome is chock full of info, the world is rich & deeply layered. My understanding of the religion COBAB is influenced by only deepens my attachment to this story. Vulture recently interviewed Adeyemi (Vulture) & when asked about her research for this book, she recalls a visit to a shop in Brazil. A visit that led her to discovering a poster with 9 African Gods & being taken aback because all her life she had only seen white Gods. This is where the idea for COBAB started formulating & I found this to be super interesting because I grew up learning about these Saints/Angels. I won’t know til’ I finish reading but it’s looking like this book may just make it into my Top of 2018 🙂

Furyborn (Empirium #1) by Claire Legrand

On March 1st. I will be joining a buddy read for this highly anticipated book & I’m SUPER stoked! no, seriously Bookworms! I already penned it into my planner with a cute little reading girl sticker which means it’s GOING DOWWWWWN! Haha! when a Goodreads blurb starts off with Follows two fiercely independent young women” it’s pretty much a given that I will want to read said book lol so I have my fingers crossed this will be yet another hit in my book cause I’m on a roll *knocks on wood*…don’t judge me 😉

Happy Monday Bookworms! hope you all had a wonderful weekend & that you discovered your next best read 💜 What have you recently finished reading? plan on reading next? Sound off in the comments below 💗 ‘s!

  1. I’m hoping that I’ll remember to pick up our ARC copy of Children of Blood and Bone at work so I can read it too. I’m currently reading “History is all you left me” (Adam Silvera), “The deal” (Elle Kennedy), and I’d like to start “The Night Circus.”

    1. I hope you get to pick it up soon! 🖤 & Adam is one of my top 5 YA authors, anything he writes is pretty much Gold in my book 😂 but please read They Both Die at the End…fave of all 3 he’s written 🙌🏼 I’ve heard of Elle Kennedy, NA right? I def could use some good reccs so please send the my way 😃 The Night Circus is a SUPER atmospheric read and also one of my all time faves…I read it in the Fall and it just fit the mood 🖤 I hope you enjoy all of you reads ☺️💕

      1. I picked up “They both die at the end,” but decided to read “History…” first! So I’ll definitely read that one soon. And yes about Elle! I decided to read it when I was going “Down the TBR Hole” 🙂

      2. You know what?….I actually think this was a good move on your part 😂 cause History was phenomenal but They Both Die at the End shattered me! 😂 & I def need to start up that meme for my TBR cause it’s bursting at the seems 😫😂

  2. WOW you loved To Kill a Kingdom so much??? I confess that the cover did not draw me in but now after having read your enthusiastic praise I think I’ll add it to my TBR 😉

    1. I LOVED The Little Mermaid as a little girl & never thought I’d read a story inspired by one of the greatest villains I truly feared lol. Whelp, TKAK DELIVERED! dark & brutal, this one is going to give other siren/mermaid books some tough competition. Even better, every single one of the buddy read member also loved it & the raving went on for days lol. I highly recommend if you’re into dark fairy tale inspired Fantasy…and snark jeje 🙂

    1. EeeeK! I don’t even know why I though COBAB was just ok for you…where did I even get this idea!?!? loL! Now I know to text you about it when I’m in my feelings haha! I love it when we have opposing opinions though cause you always add such great perspective in your reviews, looking forward to your final thoughts <3! 🙂

  3. You have some awesome books listed 😉 although I’m biased because I’m currently reading Honor Among Thieves now, and will be picking up Children of Blood and Bone todayyy. Will be reading Heart of Iron after Honor Among Thieves, cause I can’t read 2 science fiction books at once 😛 and I’ll also be picking up The Wicked Deep today or tomorrow (which I know isn’t on your list) but it’s about witches (I’m pretty sure), and I’ve been quite pumped for it. Great post, Lilly! 😀

    1. Thanks Flavia! I bet you’ll be caught up to me in no tight with COBAB although I really am being more rigid with my reading schedule for this one cause I can’t find myself reading Furyborn at the same time lOL! both books have such complex world building. I have The Final Six to read & for the same reason had to hold off cause I was reading too much sci-fi at once or back to back. I REALLLLLY want to read The Wicked Deep cause WITCHES!!! let me know how it goes <3! 🙂

      1. Haha maybe…maybe not. It is quite a thick book, and I was going to take it easy and just really savour it. But we’ll see how it goes 😉 if I get really hooked, I might just devour it in 2 days or something. And oooo I hope that you’ll get to pick up The Wicked Deep as well! I’m super excited for the witches and I hope that I won’t be disappointed 😛 haha

  4. March 6th cannot be here. It’s getting here truly slow. I truly want to read Children of Blood and Bone. The day – I’m going to head off to Barnes & Noble to get it because they have a speical edition of the book. I am also looking forward to Furyborn.

    1. I agree! I actually just pre-ordered my copy & can’t wait to get the exclusive map, I also went with the Barnes & Noble edition & submitted proof to Fiercereads 🙂 I hope you enjoy COBAB, so far it’s proving to be worth the hype! ❤ ❤ ❤

      1. I’m buddy-reading the book with a friend and I’m excited to gush the book with her. Just hope the ending is not going to be on a cliffhanger. But since it’s going to be a series, it is most likely to be.

      2. Nice! I’m beginning to see the benefits of buddy reads in regards to Fangirling at all hours of the day 😂😂😂 I really hope it’s not too much of a cliff hanger cuz it’s almost 600 pages long to begin with 🙈🤞🏼

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Haha. I am a fast reader but 600 pages… yikes. I just hope I can remember details while I’m reading, even though if I’m taking notes to remind myself.

  5. Okay, but now I want to kick myself for not preordering Children of Blood and Bone.. Also, I’m soooo excited by how much you enjoyed To Kill a Kingdom! I was a little hesitant that it would be overhyped. I think I might have to pick it up now! I also have an ARC of Furyborn that I’m struggling sooo hard to wait to pick up until closer to the release date. Can’t wait to see what you think of it!

  7. I had sooooo much fun reading TKAK with you lovely ladies, and I’m so stoked that you’re joining us for Furyborn! ❤ I'm also so happy that you're loving COBAB so much. I'm loving it but I'm savoring it and reading it slowly because it's so heavy on my soul! 😦 I feel like there are so many metaphors woven into the story that I'm constantly choking up while reading it. I didn't even know that about her trip to Brazil, but that is so incredible. I think Tomi is an amazing woman. I would love to meet her!

    1. Yes! so happy my first group buddy read was so much fun, you ladies are the best!!!! ❤ I feel you on COBAB I've shed some tears & my soul weighs heavy reading some of the painful passages of loss. I had a feeling it would be deep, but had no idea how much I'd connect with the characters. I agree, I'm hoping to see her if she attends any of the book events in NYC 🙂
